It was a real privilege to spend 2 amazing days staying on the grounds of Windsor Castle with The Coalition for Global Prosperity as part of their #FutureLeaders Programme.
Each session was amazing - we learned from impressive people including the former heads of MI6 and GCHQ (and many more!) about UK foreign policy, & how it interacts with development, defence diplomacy & security.
We started with a session by Sir Mark Lyall Grant - Former UK Ambassador to the United Nations & National Security Adviser.
We then had a session by Jessica Cunniffe on engaging with constituents about Foreign Affairs.
Our final session of the day was with The Hon. Prof Peter Hitjitevi Katjavivi , Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia
Our dinner was fascinating - we heard from Sir John Sawers, former chief of MI6 & former UK Perm Rep to the UN on all things security, foreign policy, intelligence and diplomacy.
We had the privilege of a private night tour of the chapel - what an amazing treat!
Day 2 started with Ryan Henson in conversation with Stephen O’Brien about his experiences as a Minister, and UN Under-Secretary-General.
We then heard from Sir David Omand GCB, former director of GCHQ on National Security & geopolitical risk.
We wrapped up our morning with a session by Julia Frifield, former Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs to President Obama & Lt Gen Richard Nugu, NED for Climate Change & Sustainability at the MOD to discuss climate and national security issues.
Our networking lunch gave us a chance to speak with NGOs about the work they do to tackle humanitarian issues.
Our final session was with Prof Rana Mitter, Modern China expert at Oxford University - speaking about China‘s modern history and its future.
It was a really a fascinating few days of immersion into #defence, #diplomacy, #foreignpolicy & #development. What an honour to hear from such renowned and incredible experts in the fields, and to spend time with the next generation of #FutureLeaders. Being able to stay in the grounds of Windsor Castle was the icing on the cake!
Thanks to the amazing CGP team!
