Thanks to Iain Dale for inviting me on his LBC show. (You can watch it here: )
I've enjoyed Iain on LBC for years, and admired him as a broadcaster for ages, so I was chuffed when I met him at an event in January and he invited me to appear on his show, Cross Question.
I was on with three very talented and experienced panellists (Bob Seely MP – MP for the Isle of Wight, Jim McMahon MP– Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and Adrian Thompson – podcaster and satirist).
Questions really do all come in live and you have no chance to research, to get further information, or even think for long.
Iain and all the panellists were so warm and encouraging and the hour flew by! We were able to use the breaks to have some really fascinating debates and discussions.
Questions ranged from Boris Johnson and the privileges committee to rail strikes, from Ukraine to China, and even to sewage!
I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to talk about the work I do as a Social Mobility Commissioner, where I work with other Commissioners and some brilliant civil servants to hold the Government to account on Social Mobility and to ensure that every person in the UK can achieve their potential regardless of the circumstances of their birth.
I was also able to talk about the importance of integrity and trust in politics and our political system. If you’re interested in this, check out the brilliant work of the John Smith Centre.
