My dad contracted meningitis when I was a teenager and was in a coma for 9 days. Luckily, the NHS were able to save his life.
It made me want to do my bit to help - but I couldn't stand the sight of blood or needles, so knew I couldn't work IN medicine. Donating blood became the way I could do my teeny, tiny, little bit to help.
Giving blood is easy, quick, painfree - and saves up to three lives.
We need:
- Nearly 400 new donors a day to meet demand
- Around 135,000 new donors a year to replace those who can no longer donate
- 40,000 more black donors to meet growing demand for better-matched blood
- 30,000 new donors with priority blood types such as O negative every year
Men can give blood every 12 weeks and women can give blood every 16 weeks.
