I was delighted to be appointed to the Government's Smart Data Council, and to attend its inaugural meeting at The Department for Business and Trade.
Smart Data involves the secure sharing of customer data with authorised third parties to help improve services for consumers.
The council is looking at how and where the Government can bring benefits to consumers and help tackle challenges like the cost of living crisis and our UK net zero target.
Led by Kevin Hollinrake and attended by a wide range of experts, we will be working over the next 2 years to replicate the success of Open Banking in other sectors which could include telecoms and energy.
Launched in 2018, Open Banking has been one of the early champions of Smart Data, and now supports over 7 million customers. In that time the data sharing services have boosted customer knowledge of their finances and enabled increased savings.
