Small Business Saturday is a grassroots campaign, held on the first Saturday in December each year. It gives us an opportunity to highlight the success of small businesses and encourages people to support small local businesses in the community.
Small Business Saturday has seen a 20 per cent increase in footfall for small independent businesses across the country on the day - giving them a great boost in the lead up to Christmas.
As a candidate in Dulwich & West Norwood, I was delighted to hold a competition to recognise the best small business in the area - where we were really spoiled for choice. Jalisco Brixton and Dulwich Books were both worthy winners as voted for by local residents. Voters loved the delicious food, great service and family-run feel at Jalisco Brixton – a personal favourite of mine in fact! Dulwich Books was celebrated for the great service they provide as well as the way their unique and diverse events helped bring the local community together. I was really delighted to be able to award the two fantastic winners of my small business competition with their winners' certificates.
